View over the Kennicott River of Regal Mtn and Root Glacier

The road dead-ends at the river, but the small village of McCarthy and the historic Kennicott copper mine are on the other side. To cross over you get into a little cable car and pull yourself hand-over-hand to the opposite shore. Well, that’s how it used to be in 1993. Today, a footbrigde crosses the river for much improved access.
